Chandigarh municipal corporation authorities have drawn up proposals with Rs 1.74 crore to convert the manual Construction and Demolition Debris Plant into an automatic plant. The proposals were prepared after a two-month-long hectic exercise.
The production capacity of the plant would multiply five to six items if the automatic plant becomes operational. Tenders will be called for the plant works next week. Engineering officials say that the production capacity of the plant would maximum after converting it into an automatic plant. The plant recycles construction and demolition debris and produces concrete and other types of building materials.
The recycled material would be used by the municipal corporation engineering section in some of the projects. The municipal corporation has prepared draft regulations pertaining to the C and D waste policy. As per the rules, people can bring their construction and demolition waste material for recycling. The people will be permitted to bring their construction and demolition debris not only from Chandigarh, but also from Panchakula and Mohali.
