Municipal Administration Minister KTR recently released the HMDA’s coffee table book depicting greenery, water bodies and art in Hyderabad. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who penned the foreword to the book said that the new Municipal Act made it mandatory for the civic bodies to allot 10 per cent of the budget towards green budget. It provided for the development of urban parks in local bodies. Greenery development and safeguarding the tanks was a part of urbanization. The HMDA has a greater role to play in the process, the CM said, underlining the need for the HMDA to play an active role.
KTR said that the greenery developed all along the ORR was featured in the book. He appreciated HMDA adopting 16 urban forest blocks. Municipal Administration Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar said that greenery development was luxurious at all the 19 intersections on ORR due to implementation of drip irrigation.
The HMDA paid special attention to revitalize the greenery in the otherwise concrete jungle. To revive greenery in urban areas, the HMDA has been making concerted efforts. The 1500-year-old city of Hyderabad has been developing in leaps and bounds. The hills and rocks and ponds that were formed about 2500 million years ago lent beauty to the city.At a time the significance of these natural formations was on the wane, the HMDA put the best foot forward to safeguard the heritage of the city.

It is taking steps to protect the trees, lakes and greenery in the city. It is changing the contours of the city by growing saplings and implementation of avenue plantation all along the ORR. Also, it has put in place measures for greenery development in the adjoining areas. It has plans to have murals at important junctions. The coffee table book documented how it developed greenery in and around the ORR.
