Using geo-mapping method To identify illegal structures

The Center replied to the Supreme Court that steps are initiated to identify illegal constructions along the banks of the River Ganges in Patna through geo-mapping. A resident of Patna filed petition with the National Green Tribunal complaining that the illegal constructions have been obstructing the flow of flood water leading to flooding of several residential areas.

However, the tribunal dismissed the plea treating it as non-maintainable, forcing him to move the Supreme Court. In this backdrop, the SC Bench, which heard the plea, sought to know from the Centre what steps did it take to identify the illegal constructions. The center replied that the illegal structures are being identified through geo mapping. Against this backdrop, opinions are being expressed that there is a need to identify illegal constructions through this system in Hyderabad too. As large-scale construction of houses encroached canals and ponds, even a small shower is causing serious problems in several areas of Hyderabad. Therefore, adoption of geo-mapping system to identify illegal structure is advocated.
