Jagananna Colony beneficiaries accused of selling plots

  • Increase in building material costs is stated to be the reason
  • Beneficiaries entering into illegal transactions to sell plots

Government authorities have set their sights on the alleged sale of land by beneficiaries of Jagananna Colonies. In fact, the beneficiaries are prohibited from selling the sites. It came to the notice of officials that at least 190 beneficiaries, by execution of deeds on stamp papers, disposed of the sites allotted to them. The state government has sanctioned 7500 houses to the homeless poor in Nunna area near Vijayawada. Construction of 3000 houses by beneficiaries is under way in the region. In view of exorbitant hike in prices of building materials, several beneficiaries are disposing of their plots.

Middlemen have entered the scene and conducting unofficial transactions. They are reaching agreements to sell a cent land at Rs 1.2 lakh. However, such transactions are not valid legally. In spite of it, the middlemen are conducting such unauthorized transactions executing them on stamp papers. They have begun an exercise to find out who all sold the sites allotted to them by the government. The officials have been warning the beneficiaries and people at large that sale and purchase of the sites is prohibited by law. If anyone is found indulging in such transactions, the officials warn them of initiating stern action.
