Investments by institutional investors in housing projects have increased tremendously. Compared to the third quarter of last year, investments in Q3 this year increased by big numbers. In the same period last year, as much as 174 million dollars (Rs. 1,444 crores) were invested, but this year, 298 million dollars (Rs. 2,473 crores) have been invested, a growth of 71 percent. The Indian real estate industry as a whole attracted $679.9 million in institutional investment in the quarter ended in September, according to a report by leading real estate consultant Vestian.
When compared to the 374 million dollars received during the same period of the previous year, a growth of 82 percent was recorded. It is estimated that the investments are likely to increase further in the coming quarter as well. In the September quarter, 71 percent of the institutional investors’ investments came from domestic investors, while 27 percent of the investments came from foreign institutional investors. Residential projects received the highest investment in the September quarter. Their share is 44 percent. 24 percent of investments went into commercial real estate assets. Office properties attracted $164 million, and industrial warehousing properties attracted $190 million of institutional investment.
