Russian tennis legend Maria Sharapova, former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher and 11 others have been charged with cheating and a criminal offence at a Gurgaon police station. The police registered an FIR against Shafali Agarwal, a woman from Delhi, following a court order. Shafali said Real Tech Development and Infrastructure India Pvt Ltd, a real estate company, has launched a project named Sharapova in Sector 73 in Gurgaon. It describes booking a flat in a tower named after Schumacher.
Company representatives said they had paid Rs 80 lakh for the flat and would hand it over in 2016. However, the flat has not been given so far. He eventually complained to the National Consumer Commission but justice was not done. Shafali said the court was directed to register a criminal and cheating case against them in this regard. It is learned that Sharapova and Schumacher are the promoters and partners of the project.
Sharapova promised to visit the project site and open a tennis academy as well as a sports complex there. She also promised to have dinner with the buyers, but did not do anything, the complaint said. Police have registered a case against them in this regard.
