Another 2 cr houses for the rural poor

The centre has taken steps towards fulfilling the dream of the rural poor and middle-class people of the country. Union Finance Minister Sitharaman said that the Centre is bringing a scheme for eligible middle-class people living in rented houses, slums, and informal colonies to buy their own houses or build new houses. Also, he said that two crore more houses will be constructed for the rural poor under the PM Awas Yojana (Grameen) scheme in the next five years. To this extent, the announcement was made during the presentation of the budget in the Lok Sabha. He said that the Modi government has tried to provide housing, water, electricity, cooking gas, and bank accounts to everyone as part of inclusive growth in the past 10 years. It was mentioned that the implementation of the PM Awas Yojana scheme has been continued despite the obstacles due to COVID. They made it clear that they are close to the target of three crore houses. In the next five years, another two million houses will be constructed. The central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin scheme in 2016 with the aim of providing housing to all in rural areas. It has set a target of constructing 2.95 crore Pakka houses by March 2024.
