A Bengaluru-based housing society takes this novel decision
Such measures are demanded in Hyderabad too to curb water waste.
Come September, the water woes begin for residents of any city. The problem is more poignant in cities. The borewells go dead as the groundwater level touches the rock bottom. In this backdrop, getting drinking water supply through water tankers is the only alternative for apartments and gated communities.
The drinking water scenario is worse in the Silicon City of India, Bengaluru. Rains played truant during the monsoon season. As a result, the water level in the River Kaveri has gone down. Consequently, some parts of Garden City reeled under a severe drinking water crisis. Every water drop has become precious.
A housing society in the White Field area of Bengaluru took a sensational decision. It decided to impose a fine of Rs 5,000 if anyone living in the society indulges in water wastage. It also employed an exclusive security guard to monitor the issue.
The Farm Meadows Housing Society in the White Field area of Garden City served notices to the housing society members in this regard. As the society did not receive water supply for the past four days, it asked the residents to waste water. To prevent the impending water crisis, every owner should reduce water usage by at least 20%. It threatened to impose a fine of Rs 5,000 on flat owners using water for unwanted purposes. If the flat owner violates the order over and over, the fine to be imposed would increase. Meanwhile, other housing societies in Garden City have decided to exercise caution on the daily use of water.
The drinking water crisis is a normal phenomenon to be experienced in Hyderabad and many other areas during the summer. Apartment dwellers, villa owners, and others would have to get the support of water tankers during the crisis period. Gated communities and apartments requisition tanker supplies of water at least once every two days. The maintenance charges will go up accordingly. In this backdrop, water waste should be prevented immediately. If every drop of water is treated like a precious one, waste can be prevented, and at the same time, money can be saved.
