To check crimes in Goa, the famous tourist destination, the state government there took a crucial decision: To gather background information of tenants. The Goa CM, Pramod Sawant, has warned of sending those who live in the tourist state without any valid reason to jail. He contemplated action against house owners who did not verify background of tenants?
“The police have started checking background of tenants in Goa. They fine the house owners if they happened to let out their house without checking background of the tenants. That is why, the house owners should go through all details of the tenants prior to giving their houses on rent,” Says Pramod Sawant. If the information about tenants is available readily, the crimes in Goa can be prevented, he maintained.
As per the Goa (Verification of Tenants) Bill 2021, the house owners who fail to check the background of their tenants will be punished with imprisonment up to six months and a fine of Rs 10,000. The Bill was piloted in the Assembly, but referred to the select committee. Several urged the Telangana Government to implement similar bill in Hyderabad too. Many people from other places visit Hyderabad. Many live here for several years altogether. Prior to giving houses on rent in Goa, the house owners should find it out who are they? Where did they come from? What is the purpose of their visit to Goa? Moreover, they should obtain their identity cards before giving the houses on rent. Then only, it will be possible for the authorities to control crime.
