Rera Shortage of employees

RERA attributes lack of comprehensive information on its budget about the progress of the disputes to acute shortage of manpower. It urged the Government of Maharashtra to allot 81 employees to tackle the growing work load as buyers are flooding the MahaRERA office with complaints. The MahaRERA sought a workforce of 81 in addition to the existing staff strength of 64. But, the request has been kept pending with the government.

An officer of the RERA who wished to remain anonymous said that if the government responds to the request favourably, it would be a great relief for the RERA. The official said that the promoters have been updating information every three months. It is very essential to scrutiny the information. The buyers will take a decision depending on the Information uploaded into the portal.

That is why delay in subjecting the information to scrutiny has been taking place for want of additional hands. On the other hand, personnel are needed to support the services of additional Benches created in the RERA to resolve the disputes. Currently there are six Benches, with each Bench having a Chairman and two members. These Benches require writers, stenos and clerks to enable the Benches to conduct their operations smoothly.

Concern over Rera disputes

Consumer welfare associations and social activists have been questioning the Maha RERA over lack of information about various builders like complaints against builders, how a dispute between builder and consumer resolved, details of judgment. They complain that barring project number, name of the project, name of the division, complaint number no other details are present in the website of the RERA. There were no details of the directions issued by RERA bench on a particular dispute. Moreover, there are no details of what exactly the complaint is. They feel what the use of the portal is without giving the vital information needed by prospective buyers.

In fact, MahaRERA cited in its portal that it received a total of 3600 complaints pertaining to various projects in its six revenue divisions in Maharashtra. There are some projects, in which hearing has been completed pertaining to relevant dispute between builders and buyers. In fact, a buyer of property looks for any complaints against the builder in the portal before taking a decision. The portal merely mentioned that the bench heard the arguments of both sides to the dispute, but it did not mention details whether the bench has resolve the problem or not.
