The colours you choose for your home decor can actually reveal quite a lot about your personality. Like everyone, even Shama Sikander wants to create the perfect home, and often the way she decorates it is an extension of her attitude and feelings. It was nine years ago, when the actress who once had to see such tough times in the initial days when she didn’t even have food to eat — today owns an apartment of her own residing with her husband.
In an exclusive conversation with the actress who used to move locations frequently, at the moment found her solace at one place with her own little family. “The design of my home should be an expression of myself and build a story through the colours and styles that I choose. My home is my havens, so when it comes down to it, it should reflect the people who live in them. Also, I am a perfectionist — so I try to keep the objects or design as perfect as I can and when I tend to go overboard, glad there is someone to tap and tell me to stop.
I crave for the mix of both worlds: minimalist and lavish,” she shared. The actress who starred in Aamir Khan starrer Mann likes to be organised in life, then the chances are that her house will be clean and spacious, and there won’t be a pile of clutter in sight. Homes with lots of storage and simple designs reflect her personally which is logical and calm, and like to have things planned out. “I am not interested in one property but many, it’s an investment. As per my sources, Manhattan skyline is the best place to own a penthouse right now. Looking forward to it! Wouldn’t even mind owning mindful of villas by the beach or on the Los Angeles hills like the Kardashians. I go gaga over luxury. I like luxury, who doesn’t,” she added.
Her home will also be full of plants and flowers, with a garden bursting at the seams. For her, it is important to make sure her home reflects her lifestyle, as how she feel in her day to day life should be the same when she is in her home. Because, “I love spending time in the midst of nature. It’s the core essence of who we are as living beings on this planet. Every time I connect with nature, I am reminded of who I truly am and what is truly important in life. This is something I always work to convey in my home too. Nature is one of the most beautiful, healing parts of our planet. It is a reminder that life is happening exactly as it’s supposed to. It always grounds me to who I am at my core as a living being on this planet. Taking a sip of coffee or tea when the dawn is settling is so soothing.” Colours also really represent who you are and how you feel. There are many different studies out there that focus on colour psychology and how different colours can make you feel different emotions! And then choosing the fav location to bring those colours into it, is a cherry on the cake. When we asked her the same, she excitedly tells, “I am confused between Los Angeles and Atlanta Georgia. LA vibes are my true calling! Atlanta has my extended family already there, so it’s like my own community to have. My safety protocols are in order there then.”
Any celebrity friend’s house she gushes about? Oh yes, it has to be her dearest friend and Sacred Games fame Surveen Chawla. She explained, “I like that she has put so much thought behind everything in her house. In fact, each time we go to her home for any event she puts in a lot of hardwork and passion into making it look completely different than the last time. Hats off to her! I don’t think of changing so much because I usually do very little decor when I am having any function at home but she goes all out and I really admire this about her and not to forget her husband Akshay who supports her in everything she wants in her house.
