IGBC Green Champion Award to MA&UD..

The IGBC is holding its 20th edition of Green Building Congress 2022 between 20 – 22 October 2022 at HICC, Hyderabad with the theme ‘Advancing Net Zero – Buildings & Built Environment’. As part of the 3 days event, an award presentation ceremony was held on 21.10.2022 at HICC, Hyderabad and for the category ‘State Government encouraging Green Building Movement in India through multi-pronged approach’, the MAUD Department, Govt. of Telangana has been awarded with the “Green Champion Award”. Sudarshan Reddy, Secretary, MA&UD and Devender Reddy, Chief City Planner, GHMC received the awards on behalf of the State Government.

Telangana State which is one of the leading states in the country in terms of green building footprint has 575 green building projects registered with IGBC, contributing 1,030 million sq ft. The Telangana State being the 1st State in the country to adopt the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) has also brought wide initiatives in the Energy area by making mandate for adoption of ECBC guidelines in all Commercial Buildings with more than 1000 sq.mts of site area and 2000 sq.mts. of built up area, thus encouraging the adoption of Green Building concept. The Cool Roofing Policy adopted is also one of its unique kinds which reduces the consumption of electricity in the buildings during summer, thereby contributing to saving
electricity.

The Harithaharam initiative by Telangana has also gained global recognition with Hyderabad recently winning the prestigious ‘World Green City Award 2022’. The green movement in the state has grown from buildings to built-environment. In this context, the planning and infrastructure of 4 cities in Telangana are being developed as per the IGBC Green Cities Rating. These cities fall under the jurisdiction of GHMC and Municipal Corporations of Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar. The initiatives were all implemented with the support and guidance of the MA & UD minister who has a vision to take the Green Building concept across the State.
