Anyone will be mesmerized by the sight of the city of Dubai. Dazzling skyscrapers, attractive buildings on the sea shore, and roads on the sea. This city is a global hub, a haven for the world’s biggest brands and of course, the third largest tourist destination in the world. How did it was achieved in such a short span, remains a mystery for many. To unravel it, one must dwell into the past, witness the present and visualize the future.

Years ago, Dubai was nothing but another desert. If a house is built on sandy surface, it was sure to collapse. People could not even cultivate crops for their own consumption. There was no water to drink. The country also has no minerals resources or gold mines. But the country has risen to international level in just 20 years which is no small feat. Looking at Dubai, one can understand that miracles can be created if the rulers have a vision and a solid action plan for development.

There is no doubt that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the King of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, is a great visionary. He believed that ordinary people save money to party and extraordinary people save money to build a great empire. Many people get inspired by statement that no matter what they do, they must be the best in the world. There is no doubt that the King of Dubai believed in it and led his country to become an international destination.

He succeeded in transforming Dubai from an oil-based economy to a tourism-based economy. His way of thinking is so great that he doesn’t like to lead an ordinary life. It is not in his blood to be average. In terms of realty sector, he firmly believes in remaining the market leader or at least the country remains home to unique structures that are not found anywhere in the world.

He thinks and works with the same passion. When they wanted a shopping mall, they built the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest. Similarly, when they wanted to build a tower, they built Burj Khalifa, the tallest in the world. If God created islands, this King built the Palm Jumeirah, an artificial island in the ocean itself. An underwater bridge and an underwater tennis court were also built. The world’s most expensive seven star hotel Burj Al Arab was also built in Dubai.

* Dubai is credited with creating the world’s largest park in the desert, Dubai Miracle Garden. The world’s largest five-star hotel – the JW Marriott Hotel, the largest gold market – the Gold Souk, and Dubai Land, which is two and a half times larger than Disneyland, also were developed in Dubai. Nearly two lakh tourists visit it every day. This is just a tip of an ice-berg for people to understand how the King of Dubai implements his plans. He is so innovative and forward-thinking that by 2030, he has drawn up plans to build 25 percent printing-based structures in Dubai. He did not leave it there, but already built a 40-storey 3D printed building in Dubai and showcased to the world.

In particular, the Dubai Canal project was undertaken where around 200 houses were built. Floating restaurants, marine beaches, and free Wi-Fi zones have been developed in the project. It is known that houses in areas with wet soil will collapse. As such, the credit for building the tallest towers in the sea goes to the Dubai administration. For this, expert consultants from around the world have been appointed and developed around 40 skyscrapers including Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab. Burj Khalifa needs two million gallons of water every day. For this, a water system was successfully developed by digging underground under the V-shaped mountain areas and bringing the water out. That is how the water problem in the desert area was addressed.

Drones transport humans

The King of Dubai is such a visionary leader that he developed Dubai Smart City. Hyperloop train is being developed to carry about 10,000 passengers from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in 12 minutes. Efforts are being made to have at least 25 percent driverless vehicles by 2025. Cars which can carry 30 people together, are being manufactured. With a simple click on one’s mobile, the car will pick up those who seek transportation and drop them at their destination. Dubai Ministry of Roads has already announced another visionary programme where drones will transport humans in Dubai. If a person weighing less than 100 kg sits in this drone, it will travel at a speed of 250 km per hour. Pilot run of this project is already underway.

Wow Dubai Police

The policing system has been strengthened in Dubai without requiring the police to be on the streets. There are no traffic constables anywhere on the roads. There is no system of imposing fines where the police hide behind the trees and catch the vehicles for negligent driving or carrying a heavy load. Instead, the Smart police stations have been designed where anyone can go and lodge their complaint through the computer. All the criminal records, have been made accessible to everyone. People can lodge complaints regarding accidents, lost or found any thing belonging to others and also other crimes. A fully-automated policing system has been developed to reduce human involvement. Human resources are utilized in a limited manner and it was ensured to remain corruption free. The Dubai police own some of the most expensive cars in the world. The Dubai police can claim to be the most expensive police in the world.

Natives are only 10 percent

Locals make up only 10 percent of Dubai’s workforce. People from countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Philippines account for around 60-65 percent. All of them are working as construction workers. More than a quarter of the world’s JCBs operate here. The tax-free economy of the country attracted global talent. Whatever you earn there, it’s all your money and no income tax is collected. A climate-controlled city was also developed. The King of Dubai’s specialty is not just ideas, but putting them into practice and making them successful. Every problem is turned into an opportunity. A peninsula was built in the sea after realizing scarcity of land. It was named Palm Jumeirah. Each villa at Palm Jumeirah was built facing the sea and sold for Rs 350 crore. The King never hesitates in taking risks and thinks innovatively to ensure that the businesses run properly.

A simplified and friendly trade policy has been established, with Special Economic Zones developed for specific purposes. Free business zones were started and a tax free economy was established. The world’s third largest re-export market has been developed. The aviation system has been designed such that one can reach Dubai within five hours from any part of the world. The world’s largest expo is also held in Dubai. However, lot of revenue to the local government comes from imposing fines which too is automated. For instance, a fine of 200 dirhams will be deducted from your bank account if your vehicle hits the road without proper cleaning. All the vehicles should get washed only in special showrooms established for the purpose. Similarly, fines are imposed automatically in every case. Hence, everyone there is very careful. If there is a cheque bounce, one would land in jail. If someone touches a woman inappropriately and without her consent, they have to spend many days behind the bars. Notwithstanding their status and position, a fine should be paid for violations. The farsightedness of imposing such fines and leading the people towards a disciplined life, can be possible only in Dubai.

Development in Hyderabad as well

Building a city like Dubai is no mean feat. The leadership there should be applauded. Only one percent of Dubai’s revenue comes from its crude oil. But they developed a city which is the best in the world which in turn is attracting tourists and businessmen from various parts of the globe every year. Here, women can roam freely and safely even at midnight. Police are not visible to your naked eye, but they would be guarding the city round-the-clock with eagle eyes. Wherever or whenever there is an incident, the police are there in seconds. They are plan everything efficiently to implement it with 10 times higher speed and training the people accordingly.

Our Telangana State government is also thinking with vision. Skyscrapers are coming up in Kokapet, apart from developing the Regional Ring Road in a planned manner. The best companies in the world are coming to the city. We can attract more domestic and foreign tourists to the State by putting a few efforts in developing the tourism sector.
