Several builders feel that 30 days is inadequate to implement anti-pollution measures on construction project sites and have been seeking more time from the Bruhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
To erect 35-foot-high metal sheets, install sprinklers and anti-smoke guns, and implement measures to improve air quality, the builders feel 30 days is insufficient.
Therefore, they, along with local MLAs, called on the T Ward Officer and urged him to extend the deadline. During the past several months, pollution has increased in Mumbai. As a result, the air quality has decreased considerably.
The BMC released several guidelines on October 25 to put in place pollution control measures. It gave 30 days’ time to builders to implement the measures. The builders contend that it is not feasible to install the equipment by the deadline. Therefore, they seek to relax the deadline. However, the officials have yet to take a decision in this regard.
