RERA gets tough with illegal ventures

The Kerala RERA is moving pawns on the chess board to checkmate the builders who wants to develop plots illegally and sell them to customers. It started cracking the whip on the illegal ventures launched without securing necessary clearances from the local bodies and the concerned regulatory authority. As per the rules, the real estate ventures should get clearances from local bodies or from the local authority. The plots with areas more than 500 square meters should obtain permission from RERA. But the builders have been developing ventures violating the rules. The RERA observed the phenomenon and decided to crack the whip against the developers of unauthorized ventures responding on complaints from buyers.

The authority is contemplating to take action on the land owners concerned than taking action against the real estate agents. K-RERA chairman PH Kurien went on record stating that 10 per cent of the project cost would be levied as fine on such illegal ventures. He made it clear that all real estate ventures – rural as well as urban – should invariably secure necessary clearances. There was criticism against officials not bothering to check the illegal ventures in Telangana on the lines of the K- RERA. Several have been demanding action against illegal ventures in Telangana as is being done in Kerala.
