- Cooperation of mall owners sought by retail outlets and multiplexes
- The Shopping Centers Association of India appeals to mall owners
The Shopping Centers Association of India (SCAI) has requested the mall owners to come to the rescue of the retail stores, multiplexes and food outlets during the current third wave of Covid in the same fashion as they did during the first and second waves of the pandemic. On account of the unpredicted spike in the Covid-19 cases due to the new variant, the shop owners say, their business activity has been affected. In this backdrop, they appeal to mall owners to be kind towards the shop owners.
The SCAI director Abhishek Bansal appealed to the owners of shopping centers and developers of commercial complexes to extend their cooperation to SCAI members as they had done during the first and second waves. He said the members have been appealing for a waiver of rents. Bansal, who is also the executive director of the Pacific Malls, says that he needs more time for mall owners to reflect on the issue. After going into the entire gamut of the problem, a decision is likely by the mall owners by January-end.
