Kokapet to Shamshabad

The Outer Ring Road for a length of 158Km with 8 lane and service road on either side with 2 lane was constructed and opened to traffic during the year 2010. The limited lighting was provided initially only for a length of 1km on either side at some of the Interchanges with conventional lighting system. The lighting of the main carriage way, service roads and interchanges between Gachibowli to Shamshabad for length of 22Km and 4 interchanges were taken up and completed in the month of March 2018 with the cost of Rs.30.0 Crores which also includes 5 years of maintenance.

The Minister of MA&UD K. T. Rama Rao has instructed to take up the LED Lighting on the balance stretch from Kokapet to Shamshabad (0 to 136 Km.) so as to reduce the accidents during the night time and enhance the safety of the road users.

On the instructions of the Minister K. T. Rama Rao, HMDA/ HGCL has taken up the work of Providing LED Illumination to the Outer Ring Road, Hyderabad from Kokapet to Shamshabad (0 Km. to 136 Km.) for the Main Carriage Way, Inter Changes, Service Road for 1Km on either side of the Junctions and Under Passes areas for a total of 136 Km length. The work is taken up in four packages with a cost of Rs. 100.22 Crores which includes O&M of 7 years with a target to complete in a period of one year. The works were commenced in the month of October 2020 and completed the work and ready for commissioning.

Salient Features :

1) Main Carriage Way: The Illumination of MCW of 136Km length is provided with 210/235 watts LED Luminaries with 12 m. height Galvanized Octagonal Poles with 2.5m Decorative double arm bracket at a spacing of 30m between poles. Average Luminance is 30 Lux. (Total No. of Poles 4538 Nos. & 210 watts LED Luminaries 9076 Nos.)

2) Service Roads: The Illumination of Service Roads is provided with 120 watts LED Luminaries with 7.5 m. height Galvanized Octagonal Poles with single arm standard bracket with 30 m. spacing between poles. Average Luminance is 25 Lux. (Total No. of Poles 1235 Nos. & 120 watts LED Luminaries 1235 Nos.)

3) Up & Down Ramps: The Illumination of Up and Down Ramps is provided with 130 watts LED Luminaries with 9.0 m. height Galvanized Octagonal Poles with single/double arm decorative brackets with 30 m. spacing between poles. Average Luminance is 30 Lux. (Total No. of Poles 393 Nos. &130 watts LED Luminaries 1443 Nos.)

4) Junction Lighting: The Illumination of junctions is provided with 20/30 m. High Mast Poles with 400W X 10 LED Luminaries. Average Luminance is 50 Lux. (High Mast Poles 17 Nos. & LED Luminaries 504 Nos.)

5) VUP/ PUP Lighting: The Illumination of VUPs/ PUPs is proposed with LED 80 watts high bay lights and 30 watts street lights. Average Luminance is 30 Lux. (Total Nos. of Luminaries 820 Nos ( 80 watts 690 Nos. and 30 watts 130 Nos.)

6) National Highway Lighting: The Illumination of NHs are also provided with 130 watts LED Luminaries with 9.0 m. height Galvanized Octagonal Poles with double arm decorative brackets with 30 m. spacing between poles. Average Luminance is 30 Lux. (Total No. of Poles 157 Nos. &130 watts LED Luminaries 314 Nos.)
7) The special feature of the illumination of ORR is provided with GSM based automation system consisting of
a) Web Based Management for lighting operation remotely from Laptop/Cell Phone.
b) Programming and Reporting System
c) Remote controlling light intensity for dimming and monitoring the functioning of street lights online.
d) Dimming option of lights up to 10% to 100% in 5 stages or linear dimming for
saving the Power consumption during low traffic time.
e) Highly reliable system providing alert messages for
• power theft,
• short circuit,
• energy leakages, and energy losses due to earth leakages
• fused lights & health of street lights
• Over/under voltage & Current
• Power failure
