The Supreme Court has issued notices to Phoenix Company for encroaching upon the Narsingi Lake located in Puppalguda, Gandipet. This information was shared by Congress leader and prominent environmentalist Dr. Lubna Sarwath in a statement. She had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, requesting the removal of Phoenix’s encroachments on Narsingi Lake. The Supreme Court has given Phoenix time until October 18 to respond to the issue.
Dr. Lubna Sarwath who learnt that Phoenix had destroyed Narsingi Lake filed a case against Phoenix in the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The then Rangareddy District Collector submitted a report to NGT stating that Phoenix had encroached upon Narsingi Lake. However, the NGT, after ordering the formation of a joint committee, dismissed the case based on the report from the committee members. As a result, Dr. Lubna Sarwath challenged the NGT’s ruling in the Supreme Court on August 9, 2024, and September 23, 2024. She believes that the previous government supported Phoenix, thus violating the main objective of the National Green Tribunal, and has filed a case in the Supreme Court accordingly.
