While illegal constructions are being demolished on one side in Hyderabad, buildings that were constructed in violation of regulations are collapsing on the other. Due to the negligence of officials, disregard for rules, and the failure to take action against illegal constructions, accidents are happening. Recently, a building in Hyderabad, constructed in violation of regulations, shifted to one side, causing panic.
In Gachibowli Siddiq Nagar, Hyderabad, a four-story building, built on a small plot, tilted on Tuesday night, creating fear among locals. Around 20 people inside the building rushed out to safety. However, when the building shifted, a person named Iqbal Hussain, who was on the third floor, jumped from the building in fear and was severely injured. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors are treating him.
In Siddiq Nagar, Plot No. 1639, in the Kondapur division of the Serilingampally circle, a 50-square-yard plot was used by Laxman and Swapna to construct a G+4+Penthouse building two years ago, under the name “Happy Residency.” The building has one room on the ground floor, two rooms on each of the four floors, and one room in the penthouse. Currently, 30 unemployed people from Assam and Manipur are residing in these rooms.
Three days ago, construction work began for a new building behind this one. On Tuesday morning, pits were dug for two pillars next to the Happy Residency. As a result, by 8:30 PM, the building suddenly tilted toward the pits. People inside realized the danger and ran out. Soon after, police, GHMC officials, and disaster management teams arrived at the scene, evacuated the Happy Residency and two nearby buildings, and relocated everyone to a local community hall. Efforts are underway to remove the tilted building.
Officials are shocked by this incident. They are investigating how a G+4 building with a penthouse was built on such a small 50-square-yard plot. They are questioning how the building was given permits, and expressing anger over the local authorities’ inaction when it was constructed without proper approvals. It was revealed that six slabs were laid in violation of regulations, and the colony road is only 12 feet wide. Allegations of corruption have surfaced, with critics accusing certain officials of turning a blind eye to illegal constructions, gambling with people’s lives. Authorities have stated that there are thousands of such illegal buildings in Hyderabad, and that accidents like this are bound to happen sooner or later.
