Suspend GHMC officials for failing to check illegal structures

The Government of Telangana should immediately suspend the GHMC officials and other personnel who turned a blind eye to the illegal construction of apartments in 44 acres. The apartments did not come up overnight. The top officials have information right from digging foundation to laying of the roof. But the officials who allegedly accustomed to receiving bribes allowed the irregularity to happen. Encouraged by the official inaction, the builder fired on all cylinders to build illegal structures. Who cornered the hard-earned money of 60 persons who bought flats in the structure? Can they every buy a home again? Who should make good the loss caused to them?

Over 60 families – some invested their hard-earned money, while some others disposed of their properties elsewhere and invested in the property – to fulfill dream of owning a house. As they are preparing to celebrate house warming of their new abode, the high court news came as a bolt from the blue as it declared the structure as illegal. Acting on High Court directive, the GHMC officials resorted to pulling down the structures. The hopes of the home buyers in the project dashed against the wall. It happened in the Cyrstal Township of Pride India project in Bandlaguda. The High Court decided that the township was an illegal venture spreading over 44 acres, the GMC officials started the demolition of structures. The home buyers in the project are caught in severe agony.

The controversy that began in 2016 ultimately led to demolition of the structures. Why did not the government stall the sales of the flats in the project since it knew well that the structure is illegal? When the structure is almost ready, the pulling down of the structure to the detriment of buyers is not justified, lament the agonized buyers. The pride India purchased the land from pattadars. Later, the builders purchased small land parcels and started construction of flats without obtaining permission. The pattadars moved court in 2016 as the Pride India is yet to clear amount due to them. As a result, permissions to the layouts have been suspended. But, the buyers of the flats did not know about it. They started building homes in their venture. As the High Court decided them to be illegal structures, the GHMC officials started pulling them down.
