Clarifies Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
Experts suggest such audits be conducted in Hyderabad too.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recently issued instructions to get structural audits of buildings older than 30 years by authorised auditors. It has been clarified that a structural audit should be done before any repairs or other work is done. Otherwise, if any accident is caused by carrying out the work, the secretary or president of the society will be held responsible, and action will be taken.
In fact, Navi Mumbai is a 50-year-old city. Generally, a properly maintained cement-concrete building can last for 60 years. However, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to conduct a structural audit of buildings over 30 years old as a precautionary measure. In that case, Hyderabad is more than 400 years old. There are still many ancient buildings in the city. Some of the structures may be hundreds of years old. In this context, there are opinions that there is a need to take similar measures here as well. It is stated that if this process is completed before the rainy season, there will be no serious mishaps.
