SC bars construction activity in Tiger reserves

The Supreme Court has made it clear that no construction activities should be undertaken in the core areas of tiger reserves, national parks and sanctuaries. It opposed the idea of establishment of zoos and safaris in tiger reserves and national parks. It directed the riNational Tiger Conservation Authoty (NTCA) to file an affidavit explaining the need for safaris in national parks. To this extent, the bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Vikram Nath issued an order. Hearing a lawsuit filed against the establishment of tiger safari in the buffer area of the Cobbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand and the construction of several illegal structures, the court prohibited construction activity in tiger reserves, national parks and notified core areas till further orders were issued.
