At a time when spiritual tourism is on the rise in the country, big retail brands are eyeing spiritual centres. Steps have been taken to provide the necessary products to the devotees. As a part of this, expansion plans are underway in cities like Tirupati, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Amritsar, Puri, and Ajmer, among others. Real estate consultant CBRE has released a report detailing the strategies followed by retail chains to provide business opportunities in 14 key cities where spiritual tourism is growing in the country. Madurai, Guruvayur, Dwaraka, Mathura, and other cities are also witnessing a retail boom, it said. It revealed that retail companies are focusing on displaying their brands in popular malls as well as in high-traffic areas to attract tourists.
Manyavar, Reliance Trends, Raymond’s, Market 99, Pantaloons, Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Reliance Smart, etc. have already opened their retail stores in Ayodhya. In Varanasi, Zudio, Shoppers Stop, Burger King, and other companies have also expanded their operations. CBRE Chairman Anshuman Magazine said that spiritual tourism is getting a boost with the steps taken by the government to promote the tourism sector and improve connectivity. All the companies, like fashion, food and beverages, hypermarkets, etc., are expanding their activities by offering products according to the needs of their devotees. CBRE India MD Ram Chandnani said that the hospitality and retail sectors are coming together well with the trend of spiritual tourism.
