Distribution of more than Rs.15,500 crores in five years
REITs continue to boom in India. After the REIT market started in 2019, more than Rs.15,500 crores have been distributed in these five years. With total gross assets of over Rs.1,30,000 crores and a market capitalization of over Rs.85,000 crores, there has been significant growth with 115 million square feet of Grade A office space. Indian Rights Association (IRA) disclosed this detail.
By February 29, 2024, the number of unit holders in the four REITs has crossed two lakhs. The journey of REITs in the country started with the introduction of regulatory guidelines in 2014 and ended with the public launch of REITs in 2019. This year the embassy REIT listing happened. Subsequently, Mind Space Business Parks REIT in 2020 and Brookfield India Real Estate Trust in 2021 were listed. India’s first retail REIT Nexus Select Trust were listed in May 2023.
