We are witnessing rapid changes in urbanisation around the world. Accordingly, we are planning to hold interactive sessions frequently and formulate comprehensive planning policies. We will also look at the lifestyles of people in the state. With a focus on water resources and the transportation system, we will develop guidelines to pave way for development for the benefit of the people.
ITPI was established in 1951 to promote vocational skills and modern practices related to urban and rural planning across the country. With over 7000 members, the organisation has branches in all states of the country including Telangana, providing significant services. It is noteworthy that Mohd Fayyazuddin, a native of Telangana and then the Chief City Planner of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, was a founder of this organisation. The objectives of the organisation is to formulate sustainable, robust and standard planning procedures for urban and rural development. It also promotes and protects the interest of those who choose vocational education in urban and rural planning. ITPI extends financial assistance for research and academic activities required for the development of urban and rural areas.
ITPI provides new membership to candidates based on their qualifications and skills. It also conducts Associate examinations for vocational students who are unable to attend universities and colleges to develop skills in planning. Those who pass this exan are considered eligible for Central Government jobs as well.
ITPI has formulated the policies required for urban development as per the directions of the Union Ministry of Urban Development which are implemented by various government agencies. The Institute also publishes quarterly journals on advanced developments and research topics in the field of planning. ITPI is the Vice President of the Commonwealth Association of Planners (CAP).
