New scheme to save power in AP

  • Energy-efficient equipment to
    be fixed in 15.6 lakh houses

For the first time in the country, the Government of Andhra Pradesh is initiating measures to supply energy-efficient equipment to houses to save electricity worth Rs 350 crore annually, according to housing special secretary Ajay Jain.

Under the Navaratnalu-houses for the poor scheme, the government will first apply the scheme to the houses to be built under Jagananna Colonies. The government has decided to supply energy-efficient implements like LED bulbs to 15.6 lakh houses in the first phase. The equipment will be supplied at a price less than the market price to the beneficiaries of the housing colonies. Each beneficiary will be given LED bulbs, two LED tube lights, two energy-efficient ceiling fans. The arrangements are under way to supply them to customers at a price less than 30-35 percent if the market price to the customers. Beneficiaries who voluntarily come forward to seek the

LED bulbs, tube lights and fans would be given to them. Each household is expected to save atleast 734 units per annum.
