Is Telangana Gov serious on Urban Transport Ecosystem?

Urban transport ecosystem facilitates seamless movement of people and goods while driving economic growth and enhancing the quality of urban life. It encompasses a network of interconnected modes of transportation, including public transit, pedestrian pathways, cycling infrastructure, and private vehicles, designed to cater to diverse needs. By integrating green technologies, smart systems, and equitable access, an ideal urban transport ecosystem not only reduces congestion and emissions but also ensures affordability, safety, and connectivity for all its citizens.

Telangana is advancing its urban transport infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity, safety, and efficient mobility. The Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) pilot at Ameerpet Metro Station focuses on enhancing pedestrian and commuter connectivity within a 500-meter radius. Key initiatives include signalised turns, refuge islands, improved footpaths with safety features, and redesigning Ameerpet Junction with urban design elements and Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) stands. Railings along footpaths will address encroachments and improve traffic flow.

The Government has sanctioned Rs.1,500 crore for 49 roads, divided into two packages: Package 1 covers 24 roads (56.42 km, Rs.698.20 crore), and Package 2 covers 25 roads (63.30 km, Rs.801.80 crore). These projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and promote economic growth.

Pedestrian safety is being prioritised through skywalk projects. HUMTA has proposed a skywalk connecting the Secunderabad Metro Stations to the Railway Station and Clock Tower bus stop, with the Draft Terms of Reference (ToR) in progress. Additionally, a Rs.46 crore skywalk is under construction at Mehdipatnam, featuring 180-metre from the Asif Nagar side and 170-metre arms from the Sarojini Devi Hospital side for safe pedestrian movement across the PVNR
Expressway.

PRTS connecting Raidurg Metro to MindSpace
For enhanced last-mile connectivity, HUMTA is exploring a Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS) connecting Raidurg Metro Station to key areas like Mindspace and Inorbit Mall, with a feasibility study underway. To mitigate congestion, elevated corridors are under development, including an 18.12 km stretch from Paradise Junction to ORR near Shamirpet (Rs.3,619 crore) and a 5.32 km corridor from Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road (Rs.1,487 crore). Land acquisition, including defence lands and necessary permissions, is in the final stages.
