- 50-acre green belt vanishes
Irregularities are going on allegedly unchecked in real estate ventures under the limits of the Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (SUDA) in Khammam. A 50-acre green space left for development of green belt has been registered as residential plots. Such irregularities have taken place at least in 55 real estate ventures. There were reports that the officials are not taking any disciplinary action against such irregularities. The SUDA jurisdiction extends to over 46 villages and 60 wards in and around Khammam.
The owners of ventures violated rules and sold the reserved lands to customers. Theyhave apparently disposed of the land reserved for development of roads. In the ventures developed between 2014 and 2018, the space left for development of green belt was only 16.34 acres. In fact, 20-acre land reserved for green belt area disappeared. Since 2019, 248 real estate ventures were developed under SUDA limits. The total area of green belt reserved in them should be 370 acres. But 20 acres of land reserved for green belt has been reported missing.
