Govt proposes development of tunnel roads in Hyderabad

GHMC invites expressions of interest from consultancies.
Study on the feasibility of tunnel roads in five corridors on the anvil.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, during his election campaign, emphasised the development of tunnel roads in Hyderabad to overcome traffic problems.

He went on record stating that there is scope for the development of tunnel roads in Hyderabad using tunnel-boring machines. Moreover, the soil in Hyderabad is also suitable for the development of such roads, the CM said.

In tune with the implementation of the brainchild of Revanth Reddy, a significant step was taken in this regard.

The GHMC has issued a notification asking various agencies to express interest in developing roads in five corridors of the city using tunnel-boring machines. It called for a feasibility study on the development of tunnel roads in the corridors of ITC-Kohinoor-Wipro Circle via Khazaguda, ITC Kohinoor-JNTU via Mindspace, ITC Kohinoor to Banjara Hills Road No. 10 via Jubilee Hills, GVK One Mall-Nanal Nagar via Masab Tank, and Nampally to IRR at Chandrayanagutta via Charminar in West Hyderabad.

It sought a comprehensive report on the feasibility, highlighting various technical and financial aspects and the cost of the development of such roads lasting up to 120 years. The last date for submission of the expression of interest would be March 4.
