The central government has provided an important update regarding the construction of the Regional Ring Road, which is crucial for the development of Telangana. Official sources say that the construction work for the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) will commence in January or February. A week ago, TG Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited Delhi and met with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. During the meeting, he requested immediate technical and financial approvals for the northern part of the RRR. Officials indicate that there were discussions about the central government taking over the construction of the southern part of the RRR as well.
The northern part of the Regional Ring Road had already been assigned a national highway number. Now, it is reported that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has requested the Union Minister to complete both parts of the road under the same number. If the land acquisition for the 351 kilometres covering both parts is completed and the details are submitted to the central government, Minister Gadkari has suggested that work can proceed at a faster pace. The southern part of the RRR is 190 km long, and last month, the Telangana government invited tenders for the consultancy to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). It is estimated that the cost for this part will exceed Rs 14,000 crore.
For the northern part of the RRR, the state government has informed the central government that more than 90% of the land acquisition has been completed for the 161.59 km stretch. A total of 1,940 hectares of land is required for road construction in this section. Of this, 94 hectares are involved in court cases, and details of the remaining land have been submitted to the central government. Recently, the Ministry of Environment and Forests granted permission for 72.35 hectares of forest land. Once the technical approvals are received, officials say that the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) can issue tenders. Once an agreement is reached on land acquisition for the southern part, the work on the Regional Ring Road will be completed within five years, as planned by the National Highways Authority of India.
