Houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna turned out to be defective with surfacing of one problem or the other like leaking roof, delivering electric shocks to inmates and so on. These problems surfaced in the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority built flats under the PMAY. The beneficiaries paid Rs 7 lakh for each flat and Rs 25,000 towards maintenance.
In Khasra region, the NMRDA built 942 flats under the PMAY in G+4 structures. In all, 48 blocks were built by it. So far, it gave possession of 450 flats to the owners. Out of them, 320 were occupied. Within less than a year of their occupation, the occupants encountered many problems. The beneficiaries lament that the rain water entering homes. The earthing of electric connections was not done properly in some blocks leading to beneficiaries receiving electric shocks. Some of the flats are not getting drinking water supply properly. The NMRDA responded to the woes of the inmates and assured them to take suitable action against the contractor after going through the complaints.
