Collect expenses from encroachers PAC tells Urban Housing ministry

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry to pull down the illegal structures raised in government lands in the national capital of Delhi and collect the expenses from those who raised the structures illegally. It asked the ministry to create a mechanism for the same.

The PAC has urged the ministry to submit a detailed report on the extent of implementation of the Delhi Master Plan-2021, what are the balance of works to be executed and what are the causes for the delay in implementation of the master plan. The PAC has submitted its report to Parliament on the issue.

The Delhi Development Authority has pulled down illegal structures on valuable government lands. In spite of taking preventive measures for any construction activity on the land parcels, the DDA has failed to identify the encroachers and collect fines legally from them, the PAC observed.

In this backdrop, it sought establishment of a mechanism to collect expenses incurred in the demolition of illegal structures from the encroachers.
