The Forum for Good Governance Secretary M Padmanabha Reddy addressed a letter to Telangana Governor Tamilisai Sounderrajan on Wednesday requesting her to issue orders to Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to appoint full time RERA and the appellate tribunal to check irregularities in realty sector.
He complained to the governor that the RERA, constituted four years ago, is confined to papers. The RERA Act, once comes into force, stipulates the constitution of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority with at least two members and a chairman. Till the appointment of the authority, an official of the rank of secretary can be appointed as regulatory authority. In 2018, special chief secretary Rajeshwar Tiwari was appointed RERA chairman. After the end of his tenure, Somesh Kumar was appointed as ad hoc chairman. Subsequently, Somesh Kumar became the Chief Secretary. Though RERA came into force, some builders, agents have been selling properties without registering their names with the RERA and duping innocent buyers. To check the irregularities, he appealed to the governor to order the chief secretary to appoint a full time Real Estate Regulatory Authority and appellate tribunal as early as possible.
