Buyers protest in front of SC

Demand to complete the delayed projects immediately

The buyers of units in Unitech Developers have protested in front of the Supreme Court demanding suitable action to ensure that the projects stalled over a long period of time are completed as soon as possible.

Since over 20,000 buyers have been awaiting possession of their residential units from developers over a period of 10 years, the Supreme Court, in a recent decision, asked the government to take over these projects and complete the projects. But, the decision does not appear to give beneficial results to the buyers. In the wake of the decision, the buyers resorted to agitational methods like launching protests.

Upon acquiring Unitech Builders by government as per the SC decision, it appointed new management to run the project. In spite of elapsing three and half years, the new management could not achieve anything concrete, according to the home buyers’ association.

The association contends that majority of those who have brought flats in the project have retired and hence either payment of rent or that of the EMI would be burdensome to them. In this backdrop, the home buyers seek replacing the management with a professional corporate group to hand over the reins of the firm.
