The National Green Tribunal has directed the authorities to seal all illegal commercial bore wells in Noida. It also directed the builders of the builders to pay interim compensation of at least 0.5% of the project cost. The NGT was hearing a case of illegal extraction of ground water by 40 builders in Noida.
The petition alleged that the authorities concerned had failed to prevent illegal commercial extraction of ground water, resulting in its depletion. On the direction of the NGT a team of officials conducted inspections and found out that out of 33 builders 25 are using bore wells illegally. The team submitted a report to the NGT.
