10-year-long fight by 5 seniors Led Twin towers demolition

There are many interesting facts behind the twin towers of Noida Even after their collapse, the twin towers of Noida continue to grab the attention of the people. The structures were pulled down in just 12 seconds with court orders rendering the three year hard work that went into their making mere waste. The story of the twin towers right from their construction to their collapse is very interesting. The relentless struggle of five senior citizens for a period of 10 years led to the collapse of the structures. They did not backtrack enduring the protracted legal battles on the issue. They took several pains like travelling by general compartments of trains to thoroughly observing the arguments of both sides and planning the strategy to be adopted at the next session with lawyers and mobilizing necessary funds to run the court battles and so on.

In 2010, a resident of the Emerald Court and CRPF retired DIG UBS Totia (80) filed the case as the basement of his apartment complex became flooded on that year with rain water. Totia and other residents had to use boats to go to their parked cars. They first raised an objection with the builder. When the builder was conducting digging operations in the space reserved for garden, enquiries by flat owners have revealed that a 25-storey structure is going to be built there. They appealed to the residents’ welfare association on many times to take action against the builder, but in vain. Totia said that he and others were heckled and asked to mind their own business. In 2011, Totia was elected residents’ welfare association on the promise of resisting the construction of twin towers. He moved Allahabad High Court in December of 2012. Co-signatories to the petition along with Totia were: Ravi Bajaj, 72, SK Sarma, 75, MK Jain, 70, and Gaurav Devnath, 70.

The court heard the case in 20 sessions. The petitioners were present in 15 sessions. Totia recalled those incidents how they had to travel in general compartments without any reservations. After two years, the petitioners get decision in favour of them. But the Super Tech builders appealed against the decision, protracting the legal battle. At last, the Supreme Court decided that the structures were illegal and ordered their demolition, making the builder pocket the insult.
