HC rules officials also accountable

Hereafter, the officials are also going to be fined along with the builders if builders violated the rules. Hitherto, the onus was on the builders alone. But, hereafter, the BBMP has decided to punish the officials too. The civic body decided to punish the officials for failing to enforce the government rules. In an affidavit submitted to the High Court, the BBMP disclosed it. It said that relevant GOs have been issued on July 6 and 21, according to BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinadh.

Eight persons residing at Susobhit Residency in Basaveswara Nagar moved the Karnataka High court stating that it was against the rules to build shops in parking areas and additional flats on the terrace. A High Court Bench which heard the petition directed the BBMP to hold the officials also accountable for this, instead of making builders alone responsible for it, and submit the court relevant guidelines. The state government issued GO incorporating changes in the BBMP building bye-laws to impose fines on officials failed to stop the violations.
