Who is responsible for skyscrapers quality?

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is granting permissions for skyscrapers in Hyderabad as per its whims and wishes. However, some builders are selling flats under the guise of skyscrapers, even before obtaining all permissions. They are using brochures and luring customers with lesser prices in the name of prelaunch sales. One must remember that the HMDA issued permissions to only a handful companies for constructing skyscrapers.

Setting aside these facts, one would be left with many doubts like who is responsible for the quality check of these constructions, which government department will monitor the construction of 30-storey to 50-storey structures in Hyderabad, and who will certify the quality, among others.

A fascinating thing about the construction industry in Hyderabad is that if there is a land available for development, there are numerous people who would instantly don the role of a builder even if they do not have any funds to complete the project. No one cares much about their qualifications, technical expertise and experience, as well. Hence, the relevant authorities like GHMC, HMDA, and DTCPs issue permissions only after examine the credentials of the builders and their technical expertise in building skyscrapers.

Inexperienced builders

People with no experience in construction of residential complexes in Hyderabad, are securing money from the buyers in the name of constructing skyscrapers in Kokapet. They are promoting their project through social media to secure funding for the project and simultaneously, applying for permissions from relevant authorities. This indicates the confidence of the builders to convince the HMDA to issue permissions for the project, by one way or the other.

Hence, there is a rising demand that HMDA, GHMC as well as other municipal bodies should issue permissions for construction of skyscrapers, only after examining the highest storeyed building constructed by the respective developer in the past. Otherwise, even if the respective builder fails to construct the skyscrapers with good quality or fails to complete the project altogether, the buyers will obviously blame the government. Therefore, local bodies must act sternly on this issue.
