Of the 21 cases pertaining to the GHMC that are under trial before the Supreme Court, 14 are related to property-related disputes like land encroachment, disputes arising out of land acquisition for public purpose and so on.
Six cases pertain to service matters of the GHMC employees. Most of such writs pertaining to disputes related to wages. Besides, there is a case before the apex court filed by the GHMC challenging the National Green Tribunal orders.
The SC has been still hearing the 2009 land disputes case of the GHMC. As a result, the GHMC would have to pay hefty fees to the lawyers, according to critics. About 21000 cases pertaining to the GHMC are in pending before several courts. Of them, 5000 are under trial for the past several years. The GHMC has been cooperating with lawyers in filing counters on time. However, the state government is taking care of the cases that are under trial before the apex court, according to a GHMC officer who wished to remain anonymous.
