The Government of Andhra Pradesh has replaced the Visakhapatnam-Kakinada Petroleum, Chemicals and Petro-Chemicals’ investment region (VKPCPIR), set up in 2008, with VK PCPIRUDA and released a gazette notification to this extent.
The old region has a jurisdiction over 32 revenue villages in seven revenue mandals as against the new urban development authority jurisdiction of over 97 revenue villages in 10 mandals. YSRCP activist Chokkakula Lakshmi was made chairperson of the newly created urban development authority, while Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development authority Commissioner was made the ex-officio CEO of it.
The tenure of the chairperson is limited to two years.
The urban development authority would have 10 members including the district collectors of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari.
The region from Karada village in Visakhapatnam district to Vakalapudi in East Godavari district, an area of over 640 square km, will come under the jurisdiction of the urban development authority.
As par the VK-PCPIR Master plan-2031, industrial clusters, express way, major transport network, residential townships, knowledge hubs will be established in the region by mobilising investments to the tune of Rs 2 lakh crore. The objective is to create the largest ever petro-chemical hub with a potential to employ over 12 lakh persons both directly and indirectly.
