Urban investments see significant rise Asserts Union Ministry Hardeep S. Puri

Union Housing Minister Mr. Hardeep S. Puri has made it official that the investments in urban areas of the country have registered a significant increase.

The urban investments were quantified at Rs 18 lakh crore during 2014–2023, as opposed to only Rs 1.78 lakh crore received during 2004–2014.

Addressing students at Delhi University, he underlined the need for developing stable cities to provide better living standards for the citizens of the country. He described cities as the centres of economic development. He called for the application of technology in urban development and administration to get better results.

He explained the concept of smart cities to the students. The integrated command control centres established as part of the Smart Cities project have emerged as war rooms, which came in handy to tackle the pandemic situation in more than 100 smart cities.

The command control centres envisage constant monitoring of the situation, leading to a significant decrease in crimes against women. The technology is highly useful in extending security to women, Mr. Puri said.
