Twin towers… Big Lesson to builders and officials

Two towers, each of the size 103 meters x 97 meters and 40-storey tall, with a total plinth area of 7.5 lakh sft divided among 915 flats worth Rs 1200 crore are going to be part of the history soon rendering the over 10-year period hard work of four individuals sheer waste. This is about the fate of the towers built illegally by the Super Tech in Noida.

What prompted the authorities to spend Rs. 20 crore to pull down two magnificent towers? In fact, the officials and builder are apparently in hand-in-glove with each other. The Supreme Court that ordered razing the structures to ground made comments in this regard. It expressed doubts over the functioning of the Noida Authority. It directed appropriate authorities to conduct probe in to the conduct of officials who accorded permission to the structures. Building such huge towers would not have been possible without the cognizability of the Noida Authority. It raised doubts over the style of working of the Noida Authority. It sought probe into the conduct of the officials who gave permission to build the towers. The UP government conducted probe and identified 26 officials as the culprits.

Going by the fate of the Super Tech towers, one this is very clear that builders and officials were to become hand-in-glove with each other, they would have to face trial, at least tomorrow if not today. Both the SC verdict and government measures are indicative that they are going to tolerate violations. They are sending a strong message in this regard. The Noida episode of twin towers will service as a bitter lesson to builder as well as officials. Therefore, hereafter they should function with more transparency and accountability.

Ban on drones

In connection with pulling down the twin towers in Noida, the authorities prohibited flying of drones in the area on August 28. The officials have declared 450 meters in front of the twin towers and 250 meters at the rear as prohibited zone. No person or animals or vehicles would be allowed in the zone at the time of pulling down the structure. The permission of the police department is necessary for flying drones in the region. The Noida-Greater Noida Express Way would be closed for traffic from 2.15 pm to 2.45 pm on that day.
