The Supreme Court recently refused to grant a stay for distribution of house sites among the EWS people in R5 Zone of the Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh. However, it made it clear that the distribution of the sites is subject to the final verdict on the writ petitions awaiting disposal by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The state government should intimate about it to the beneficiaries prior to the distribution of the sites. In case the HC verdict is against the beneficiaries, they would not be able to negotiate better bargain.
The farmers of Amaravati region have filed several writs in the High Court challenging the GO issued by the state government authorising the CRDA to transfer 1134 acres to the collectors of NTR and Guntur districts. They also filed ancillary petitions praying the HC for directions to the government suspending the GO and prevent allotment of the house sites to the beneficiaries of EWS. The HC upon hearing them struck them down and maintained that the allotment of the house sites to the homeless poor is subject to the final verdict to be delivered by the HC. Several farmers of the Amaravati region challenged the decision in the apex court. An SC bench comprising Justice KM Joseph and Justice Arvind Kumar that heard the petitions refused to grant stay on them.
