“Every home has a voice. My house seems to indicate that it was lovingly constructed. We have a lot of loving memories together,” asserts Sania Mirza, the very popular tennis player. The world-famous tennis player shares the history of her house while guiding viewers through her stunning residence.
With its all-white facade, round columns, and a magnificent horse sculpture at the front door, Sania’s two-story mansion is a sight to behold. The residence has a classical Greek architectural design aesthetic. This design has a distinct visual impression since it radiates elegance and classic appeal.
She says her expensive ground floor is the space where we spend probably the most time in this house. “It’s the largest living area, with a drawing room that doubles as a dining room and kitchen. My four-and-a-half-year-old kid has since used the space for a foosball table.” Sania thinks back on how her kid, Izhaan, has made the house more lively and playful, which has made everyone happy.
“In this connection, there are moments when I think of Anam as the older sister. We have a closer bond than most siblings who are eight years apart would have. I began taking national trips when I was about twelve or thirteen. And that’s when our family truly started to get close. Not just my parents, but also myself and her,” Sania tells the story.
Strong gold accents and an opulent carpet on the floor are two ways that Sania’s design instincts are evident in her lounge, which exudes a sense of grandeur and glamor. There is a private area next to the lounge room, a little parlour with a comfortable sofa that is ideal for reading a book or watching TV. It’s a representation of Sania’s wish to design a home that balances comfort and style—a place where she can relax and find peace in the middle of her hectic schedule.
Sania emphasises the value of serenity in her life as well as the most tranquil space she has designed in her house—the prayer room. “My background is steeped in deep religiosity. I go to this place when I’m feeling uneasy or shaky because it helps me stay grounded. Everything is really light, including the colours of the walls and the carpet. It’s simply incredibly fresh. It just gives this area a really, really pristine appearance and gives it the impression of having a halo around it, says Sania.
Describing the history of her son Izhaan’s charming room, according to Sania, “My initial thought was that the room needed to be right next to mine, so he could be close. Since he’s a boy and he likes blue, I thought, “All right, let’s make it grey and blue.” And that’s actually how the colour evolved. It’s a pleasant, roomy space with lots of natural light.”
Sania begins by describing the master bedroom, saying, “The bedroom is mostly decorated in earthy tones. The one item, which I adore, that adds a lot of colour is this green. I really wanted the deep bottle green colour. Sania also discusses the rationale behind each element—particularly the striking usage of gold. “I believe that if gold is used improperly, it can have a really negative appearance. But I added some gold touches to this very room, the dining area, and the drawing behind me to give it a slightly opulent appearance.” Sania’s artistic side is revealed!
Sania’s house is a haven where comfort, memories, and celebrations of accomplishments are discovered. The location where, despite her busy life, she finds peace.
