Residential properties let out for commercial attract 18% GST

The Centre took a crucial decision on imposing GST on rent. It made it clear that rent from residential and commercial properties attract 18 per cent GST. A decision was taken in this regard by the 47th GST council meeting. If residential properties are given for commercial purposes, the rent attracts 18 per cent GST.

If a company takes a residential property for residential purposes, it should pay 18 per cent on it towards the GST. The rule came into vogue from July 18. If the person residing the flat did not have any registered GST No, the person is supposed to pay 18 per cent towards the GST. If the company that has a registered GST No leases the property to individuals, it should pay the GST.
