- NGT takes serious view of encroachments of nalas and tanks

The NGT has directed the Chief Secretary Ch Somesh Kumar to take steps to demolish the illegal buildings that mushroomed in Manikonda, Puppalaguda and Neknampur areas of the city on nalas and encroaching tank beds. Because of them, obstruction to free flow of water is taking place, especially during rainy season and causing floods in these areas. Responding to a petition filed by human rights and consumer activists, the NGT Chennai Bench comprising Justice K Ramakrishnan and Dr Satyagopal Korlapati ordered constitution of a committee and asked it to submit the Bench a report after undertaking the field visit.
