Want to buy some space in the largest commercial building in the country? One might feel that it is a big boys game, but what if it is equally accessible to you? From now, people need not have to be millionaires to invest in realty sector.
On July 30, SEBI has recently decided to reduce the minimum application value for Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10,000 and for Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 15,000 respectively. Further, the SEBI has also done away with the mandate of purchasing at least 100 units of REITs. Now, you can buy as many units as you want based on the money available.
REITS and InvITs are very popular abroad. While those seeking to invest in major commercial complexes can purchase REITs, those who want to invest in national highways or power companies will have to invest through InvITs. So far, about 4 REITs and 15 InvITs have been registered in the country. Of these, six InvITs and three REITs have been listed on the stock exchange. The total investment value of these projects is about Rs 1.64 lakh crore.
