House Maintenance tips during Rainy Season

Monsoons have entered the state rather late. Rains have started lashing the state here and there. House-owners are required to take several precautions to rule out any problem to the house because of the rains and inclement weather. Besides taking steps prevent water entering the homes, the house-owners should follow minor tips to lead happy life. Let us see what precautions the house-owners should adopt to protect their structure during the monsoon season.

The atmosphere in rainy season is favourable to insects and other organisms. Therefore, precautions should be taken to prevent these insects and other poisonous insects entering the homes. They as it is cause no damage to the house but will damage furniture and walls. Besides they also cause diseases to spread. They breed in places where water gets stagnated. Therefore, no stagnation of water should be allowed. All doors and windows should have mosquito nets.

· The pests will destroy furniture. Therefore, furniture needs to be given a coat of anti-termite coating.

· Another major problem during rainy season is leaking walls and roof. The more these problems neglected the more would be expenses to plug these defects. The walls and ceiling should be done with damp roofing with sealant or putty. Waterproofing of the outside of the walls is advisable. Application of silicon paints to the inside walls is suggested.

· To prevent fungus during the rainy season, cross ventilation holds the key to check the moisture during monsoon season. It would also help remove stink. Therefore, windows should be opened to let more air.

· Prior to commencement of the monsoon season, services of an electrician should be employed to check wiring, switch boards and main switch and other electrical installations.

· The doors of windows and main gate should be made damp proof.

· Seats left in the outdoor should be replaced if they are not damp proof.

· Use of anti-skidding doormats should be used near doors.

· Use of heavy curtains to doors and windows is not advised. Thin cotton curtains should be used in tune with the time.

· Use of rugs and carpets during rainy season is not suggested as it will give scope for increase of molds and fungus.

· Leather goods should not be used in monsoon season as they are likely to get spoiled.

· The leather sofas should be protected with covers.
