The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a property tax on paid parking fees collected by malls and commercial complexes. The civic body evolved a new policy in this regard. However, it issued a clarification that the tax is not applicable to residential and commercial properties where parking is free. It clarified that sheds and sunshades developed on an ad hoc basis for parking vehicles in bungalows and houses are also exempt from the new tax, according to the civic body’s revenue committee chairman, Jainik Vakil.
Similarly, the runway developed in the parking lot for the running of the vehicles is also exempt from property tax. Out of the total parking space, the runway space constitutes 35%.
