The recently released GO by the Municipal Administration Department, which mentions the establishment of a new Hyderabad Metropolitan Region, is somewhat unclear. The GO states that all areas, including core Hyderabad and those within the GHMC limits, will fall under the new proposed authority. This raises the question of whether the government plans to introduce any new proposals for the existing GHMC, which is being widely discussed.
In the GHMC limits, town planning authorities currently grant permits for houses and buildings. Similarly, in the HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) limits, the HMDA grants permits. Now, with the inclusion of the GHMC limits into the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region, the million-dollar question is who will grant permissions for houses and buildings? If the new GO had specifically mentioned how permissions would be handled in the GHMC areas, there would be no confusion. However, with the inclusion of core Hyderabad and GHMC areas into the new metropolitan region, new doubts are emerging. If the GO had provided clarity on such issues, there wouldn’t be any confusion.
